10 FUN THINGS ABOUT ME YOU MAY NOT KNOW
Ann Magee, Children's Author

I’ve been a Jersey girl all my life. I was born in New Jersey, went to college and taught in New Jersey, and am raising my family in New Jersey. It’s the perfect blend of country (with farms and horses nearby) and city (with New York City and Philadelphia as neighbors). And the Jersey shore is only an hour away!

I have an identical twin sister and my husband John has an identical twin brother. Even weirder is my sister’s name is Donna and John’s brother’s name is Don.

I taught for seven years before my children were born — 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades. My favorite subjects to teach were reading and writing. Both my students and I kept writer’s notebooks where we would ‘try out’ ideas and stories. Now that my kids are grown, I work as a teacher again.

I read children’s books every day. Two of my favorites are The Miraculous Journey of Edward Toulane by Kate DiCamillo and the Knufflebunny books by Mo Williems. I love, love, love meeting authors and I’m lucky to have met these two! (and these two stories star my favorite animal — do you know what animal?)

My favorite foods include lobster and ice cream, but not together—that would taste gross!

One of my guilty pleasures is sleeping late. And reading in bed. Or both.

My favorite place to visit is Ireland. My grandmother was born there and I have visited six times since I was a child. I have many, many, many cousins there.

Some of my hobbies include chasing after the Mr. Softee ice cream truck, laughing with my three crazy kids, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and baking.

Some things I’m not good at are anything sports-related, cleaning, riding roller coasters, and math.

A great day would include being on vacation with my husband and three kids, anywhere. They are my favorite people.
